Our client is strengthening its capabilities in Financial Services Market Abuse & Surveillance, in response to demand for trade surveillance technology expertise.

Oliver James Associates have been mandated to find a Senior Manager: Technology Trade Surveillance & Market Abuse to be based in London. The position pays up to c£100,000 basic / guaranteed with a broad range of benefits and extras.

Their UK Financial crime team works to investigate and remediate issues, transform financial crime functions and prepare for and respond to regulation and regulatory scrutiny. This expertise allows us to provide responsive and robust investigations driven by analytics, remediation built around technologies to improve efficiency and a data driven technology responses to regulation and regulation enforcement.



Ideal profile:

The ideal profile would be an experienced senior manager with expertise in the domain of market abuse and surveillance. Specifically we are seeking an individual with hands on experience working with trade and order transactional data, familiarity with a range of surveillance vendor technology, knowledge of MAR and MiFID II regulation and advanced analytical expertise to join our growing Financial Crime team. We have ambitious plans and are looking for individuals who can develop and build our data and technology capability and bolster our market abuse and surveillance capability..



Range of accountabilities:

  • Vendor evaluations and support for surveillance strategic roadmaps

  • Market abuse surveillance implementation and calibration (e.g. detection scenarios, instance identification, parameter setting and tuning)

  • Data driven surveillance effectiveness review and optimisation

  • Reviewing end-to-end data and process flow supporting surveillance implementations

  • Holistic surveillance approach and advice across, voice, ecomms, trades and orders

  • Assistance in responding to regulatory enquiries



Your Main Responsibilities

  • Scoping, managing and delivering complex data driven surveillance engagements including project delivery, budget and risk

  • Leading on deployment of advanced analytical techniques to risk score alerts and reduce volumes of trade surveillance false positive populations

  • Actively contributing on client-facing project work, being self-starting and motivated to produce the required high standard of deliverables

  • Developing and owning Financial Crime propositions and delivery methodologies

  • Development of the technical architecture behind our surveillance offerings

  • Supporting sales through work on bids, proposal responses and developing opportunities



About You

In order to be successful you will need to show ability in most of the following areas

  • Understanding of the relevant Market Abuse regulations in the UK, US, and ideally in other jurisdictions

  • Experience with assessing, implementing and/or optimising market abuse surveillance technologies (Scila, Smarts, Actimize, KX etc.)

  • Advanced data analytics techniques, using platforms such as R, languages such as Python and vector based tools/languages

  • Experience of analysis using row based, column based and key value based engines

  • Experience in visualisation using tools such as Tableau, D3, or Bokeh.

  • Display a keen interest in technology across the financial crime space

  • Ability to clearly articulate technical approaches and concepts to clients and non-technical audiences



You will also need to have

  • Track record of managing data project delivery and project teams including ability to meet deadlines, overcome challenges, manage stakeholder expectations and produce project deliverables

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities

  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent presentation and report writing skills

  • Ability to develop new ideas into structured, deliverable proposals and projects

  • Ability to identify and address client needs, develop and maintain meaningful client relationships



Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in Compliance, Operations, MI & Data Analytics supporting market abuse and surveillance initiatives

  • Knowledge of the Market Abuse regulatory environment

  • Understanding of statistical analysis methods and the ability to apply these in the appropriate circumstances

  • Experience of business analysis tasks and approaches

  • Data modelling and/or data architecture experience

  • Experience of software development lifecycles (agile and waterfall)
