Project Manager - Underwriting Policy Administration Systems

Summary

As a member of the development operations leadership team you will oversee a team of analysts who will align with, and help facilitate the activities between the underwriting groups and IT. Your success will be centered around the value that is added by you and your team during the building, transitioning, maintenance and improvements of new and existing Underwriting Policy Administration Systems.

As part of your primary responsibilities you will

§ Be expected to build and maintain stable and trustworthy working relationships with all levels in the organization

§ Communicate strategy, direction, decisions and status to team members and others in the organization

§ Ensure that when the Team is serving as the business proxies that the information and data that they are providing is relevant, accurate and timely

§ Monitor and address dependencies and risks across implementations that may impact the overall success of the projects and programs

§ Assign and oversee the creation of epics and user stories

§ Participate in backlog prioritizing and grooming

§ Coordinate the User Acceptance (UAT) processes, identify any gaps, and spearhead needed improvements

§ Participate in sprint retrospectives and help identify improvements to the process

§ Review the documentation being prepared and socialized by the Team for accuracy and consistency

§ Support the Product Owners in the prioritization process helping to keep all teams focused and on task

§ Use reports and analysis to support all teams in decision making and improving

§ Need to create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture to succeed

§ Set clear team goals with appropriate deadlines and follow-ups

§ Motivate and coach team members and resolve any issues or conflicts

§ Learn the applications from the user perspective to help drive improvements in functionality and ease of use

§ Oversee and conduct user training and the teams keeping materials up to date

Skills and experience required

§ Strong Specialty Lines and/or Property and Casualty Underwriting Insurance domain knowledge and experience as a Project or Program Manager

§ Experience leading, or being a member of an agile team. Agile training and/or certification preferred

§ Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

§ The demonstrated ability to conceptualize business problems and develop solutions

§ Excellent analytical skills with experience in problem analysis

Necessary competencies

  • Must set the appropriate goals for the Teams and ensure that they work together as a cohesive unit all driving towards those goals
  • Must keep the Teams customer centric focused and deliver consistent added value and quality
  • Must have the ability to negotiate and interact at the leadership level with a cross section of Onshore and Offshore Underwriting and Operations Stakeholders, as well as, Internal/Vendor technical teams
  • Must be skilled at collaboration and ensure that the stakeholders are kept informed, engaged and satisfied
  • Need the ability to distill and identify what the Business or IT is asking for and assist the analysts in understanding
  • Must have strong collaboration, organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize any number of initiatives at once
