I am looking for an experienced Data Manager to implement a robust governance framework and manage data related reporting and MI processes. The role will develop an efficient and manageable processes with standards and controls relating to data across the organisation. Once developed, the role will be instrumental in ensuring the framework is adopted successfully and embedded sin all BAU related data activities.

Key Deliverables:

My client is looking to implement a globally consistent governance framework, across all entities which provides a light-touch control environment. The goal is to ensure that information flows timely, consistently and securely to and from the organization as well as within. This role will be responsible for ensuring governance is appropriate and in line with the organisation's risk operational appetite.

The role will:

  • Create and enforce appropriate policies for effective data governance
  • Define and implement techniques (if required) for quality data management to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data including measurement, reporting and remediation of data quality issues
  • Establish rules, procedures and standards for data access and distribution within the organisation
  • Implement best practice and ensure ownership of standard, corporate wide data definitions, develop rules and processes for ongoing management of data definitions
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis relevant to business process and technical resources available
  • Assess and identify risks in line with the corporate risk appetite, ensuring risks are mitigated and accounted for within the data governance framework
  • Support and educate users in the use of data and reporting systems and be responsible for adherence to processes, standards and controls
  • Continuously evaluate report production and data management processes to assess their suitability and improve MI provision to business users
  • Engage with change projects to ensure they adhere to the data governance framework
  • Troubleshoot data-related problems and coordinate remediation activities

Technical knowledge:

  • Proven experience as Data Manager having previously delivered data governance frameworks, data management processes, monitoring tools and quality control procedures
  • Familiarity with modern database and data management technologies and associated best practice
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word etc.)
  • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Person Specification

The candidate will have a strong understanding of data use in insurance organisations, knowledge and experience of implementing appropriate reporting controls, data standards and governance. Strong interpersonal skills are required when working with a range of stakeholders across the organisation.

  • A strong understanding of the insurance business process and insurance markets in which the organisation operates - must have
  • Established skills in data management, data governance and internal reporting standards - must have
  • Previous proven experience of implementing data governance frameworks in financial services organisations - must have
  • An understanding of relevant statutory frameworks and regulatory reporting needs applying to data governance (e.g. Lloyd's standards and Data Protection Act) - must have
  • Customer focused individual who can proficiently communicate data related challenges and opportunities to senior management and key stakeholders - must have
  • Effective communicator, influencer and negotiator to all levels of the business - must have
  • Self-motivated individual with a results-driven approach to achieving goals. Can establish and manage teams to achieve goals in a short period of time - must have
